BellA 05:19
There was a time not that long ago, when you were around, In front of every liquor store or pizza joint in town. I could use you whenever I wanted to, or another one down the street. Everyone took advantage of you for a reasonable fee. When the beeper went off I ran to you. It was a mess. Boozin’, drugs and gamblin’. You were the best. Breaking in begging, wanting to talk. I was so goddamn tired and you made me walk. (chorus) I only miss you cause I hate your replacement. And I hated you when I had to stand out in the rain. I can’t believe I ever pushed your buttons with my fingers, Or let your grimy mouth rub up against mine. But now that you’re gone, there’s just robots and porn And I can’t leave my house anymore. No I can’t leave my house anymore. Collect call (4x) Collect call / emergency breakthrough (4x)

Plastic protozoa, pharmacia at my door, You’re hanging from the stadiums and campaigns on the floor Should appreciate the obsolescent choices that you sell And my favorite liquor store and artificial smells. (Chorus) Keep your distance. I know you’re out there, On the telephone or somewhere in the air. Keep your distance, I know you’re out there. On the telephone, or somewhere in the air! Stalking and grooming, blaming and assuming, Waiting in the tavern to victimize your prey Shoulda seen in in the patterns and possessive power plays, Doctors office, baby sitters, dormitory dates. (Chorus) Adapting, mutating, your name is always changing, Waiting in the shadows to occupy a cell. Should appreciate the cleansing and the thinning of the herd, Slow rolling ambulances, artificial hugs. Chorus 2x

about

BellA is an ode to payphones and by proxy to an era of less convenience and more freedom. Keep Your Distance, a lockdown rant, delves into that lessening of freedom and some of the forces that led us to wax nostalgic on a pre 9/11 world in which we naively moved about freely.

Early lockdown, our neighbor Bill, who works for Glen Ridge, New Jersey Public Works, brought us a broken Tascam Portastudio 464 four track cassette recorder that was dropped off at the recycling center destined to be crushed and incinerated. Alan and Johnny Salami opened it up and replaced a chewed-up belt. Voila, we had a machine that allowed us to represent the pre cell phone era in song with a recording technology of the time.

Falzer recorded and produced both songs at Porchistas Home Studio. We think the warm, low-fi sound taps into the same nostalgia we were reaching for in BellA.

Since it is an analog recording, we decided to release our first vinyl record - Lathe Cut by For the Record Custom Vinyl in Philly.
